True lovers of early ’90’s House, rejoice: Hercules & Love Affair is back.
The musical collective — a revolving door roster of artists curated by DJ Andy Butler — will bring the beat back in 2014 with a new record, The Feast Of The Broken Heart, due out on May 26.
This time around, the DJ’s enlisted a bunch of excellent new vocal talent for his latest excursion, including John Grant, Rouge Mary, Krystle Warren and Gustaph, who lends his soulful chops on the album’s lead single: “Do You Feel The Same?”
“If I burn down the city, would you put out the flames?/If it all ends in ashes, would you still say my name?” Gustaph ponders atop a classic four-to-the-floor pulse, squeezing in quite nicely with the throwback vibrations being provided by Disclosure‘s Settle and Katy B‘s been providing with Little Red. (Then again, H&LA have been bringing that sort of sound since 2008. #Innovators!) With its bright piano chords, catchy chants (“Do ya, do ya, do ya feel the same?“) and sparse tingles of modern electronica, “Do You Feel The Same?” suggests that the upcoming record will be yet another successful outing on the dance floor for the troupe.
“I wanted nasty basslines, stormy, bleary-eyed sounds, fiery, rough, tough and ragged old school house productions that sounded almost techno. I didn’t want polite, I wanted aggressive,” Andy explains in the album’s official press release.
Rough and tough? Always good.
