Here’s the thing: All Nick Jonas wants to do in this life is to cradle you in his bulging arms, tell tales of shooting his upcoming show Kingdom and lull you to sleep with his sweet, sweet voice. (I would know about all this because I am actively dating Nick Jonas, who is my boyfriend that I am dating.)
As a result, “Jealous” — the official lead single off of Nick’s forthcoming self-titled solo record — is all about The Brother Jonas feeling a bit jealous of the other guys looking your way, and jealous of what you’re posting on your Instagram. (Save the nudes for him.)
The bouncy, Nolan Lambroza-produced cut also happens to be a certifiable jam, packed with a kind of strutting, finger-snapping funkiness and a slight ’80’s sheen. It’s a slick production from start to end, but it’s that instant rush of a chorus that truly seals the deal: “I turn my cheek, music up, and I’m puffing my chest,” he declares before launching into his sexy vibrato: “That’s why…I still get jealous!”
Time’s have changed since the The Jonas Brothers, but with any luck, Top 40 radio ought to lap this one right up.
Not too much though, I hope — I still get jealous, you know.
“Jealous” was released on September 8. (iTunes)
