Miley Cyrus might be (deservedly) getting all the attention for her Mike WiLL Made It-produced comeback “We Can’t Stop” this week, but fellow post-Disney princess Selegendary Gomezmerizing‘s also making headlines of her own.
On Monday, the “Off The Chain” chanteuse unveiled the Spearitual-meets-Bollywood-futuristic cover and release date for her upcoming record, Stars Dance. And, along with the gorgeous artwork, Selegend dropped off her brand new single: “Slow Down.”
Like “Come & Get It,” “Slow Down” sees the Lover of Love Songs getting sexier than ever — unleashing her inner Brit Brit, of course. But unlike her Bollywood-infused springtime seduction, “Slow Down” sees Selegend returning to her roots and dialing up the BPM on the Cataracs-produced banger, bouncing along atop neon lights and pulverizing dubstep grinds.
“Now that I have captured your attention / I want to steal you for a rhythm intervention,” the pint-sized Spring Breakers songstress teases in the first pulsating few seconds, diving headfirst onto the dance floor and delivering what Selena Gomez does best: Dance-pop.
There’s lots of delicious vocal stutters, lots of glitchy beat breakdowns, lots of semi-suggestive lyricism (“I just want to feel your body right next to mine / All night long baby, slow down the song!”): It’s nothing too revolutionary of course, but who cares? It’s a fun lil’ summer sizzler. Just (stars) dance, it’s gonna be okay.
Also, that clip of her practicing the “It’s the Cataracs!” shout-out in the final few seconds? Precious angel sent from above.
Stars Dance will be released on July 23. (iTunes)
