While Queen Kylie‘s kept us sexercizing (bounce, bounce) for the past few weeks as she fulfills her judging duties on The Voice UK, the disco diva has other plans for continuing the #KissMeOncePromo: Her Pharrell-assisted encouragement jam, “I Was Gonna Cancel,” is now the official second single off of Kiss Me Once.
The song, which was inspired by a real life tale of Kylie bursting into tears in front of Pharrell in the studio after a particularly bad day, will be released on May 12 in the UK as a digital download, CD and 7″ picture disc. (Praise Mizz Minogue for still getting physical with her releases.)
While Kiss Me Once is rich with potential singles, “I Was Gonna Cancel” is perhaps the album’s most likely candidate for chart success. Why? Well, it’s the Pharrell Phactor: He’s churned out hit after hit over the past year, from “Blurred Lines” to “Happy.” That #phunky disco sound, coupled with an uplifting #ItGetsBetter message, speaks to just about everything that’s hot on the radio right now. (Madonna‘s Hard Candy stays ahead of its time.)
American radio is annoyingly Minogue-less, but who knows? Kylie’s catchy cut just might strike the right chord.
Grab a shovel, because it’s time to dig ’em out!
