Sia is still afraid of so, so very many things: Chandeliers, needles — and now, heartbreak. (To be fair, no one really loves that…except maybe Lana?)
As the 1000 Forms Of Fear promo trail blazes onward (LOGO TV’s Trailblazers REFERENCE — she performed on the special on Monday), the latest promo single from the album has arrived: “Big Girls Cry,” a big ol’ dollop of soulful lonesomeness.
Backed by a delicate piano melody and moody beats and co-penned with Chris Braide, Sia bravely soldiers her way home, where she checks her phone all alone (FAR TOO REAL, SIA) before eventually bursting into mascara-stained tears on the song’s defiant chorus: “I don’t care if I don’t look pretty!/Big girls cry when their hearts are breaking.” Take that, Fergie.
It’s very Some People Have Real Problems, bolstered by even richer production and truly almighty delivery. That soaring bridge is especially devastating and gorgeous: “I wake up, I wake up, I wake up…!” Chills, chills, chills.
It’s yet another stunner from 1000 Forms Of Fear, which is certainly shaping up to be one of the year’s finest pop records. Luckily, you won’t have to wait too much longer — the album’s out on July 8.
