Years & Years are really, really about to happen, and it is imperative that you’re all onboard at this point.
The electro-dance-pop-reggae-whatever-fits-your-fancy trio supplied song after song of good vibrations across the pond last year, including “Real,” “Take Shelter” and the almighty “Desire” (which landed them their first chart hit)…and they’ve only just gone and done it again.
Just ahead of the highly coveted BBC Sound Of 2015 announcement (for which they’ve been nominated, and will likely win), the troupe’s just dropped their latest tune: “King.”
The opening synth flare recalls Pet Shop Boys. The club pulsations give a hint of Katy B. But…OOOOHHHH-ooohhh-oh! Olly Alexander commands one of the most distinct voices in pop at the moment, and that call to arms of a chorus is certainly no exception.
I was a king under your control. An instant, undeniable Years & Years smash-ah from the very first play.
“King” will be released on March 1. (iTunes)
