Ariana Grande‘s My Everything is an uneven kitchen sink full o’ radio pop gems, horn-heavy bangers, throwback R&B grooves, bizarre LGBT-oriented kiss-off tracks and soggy bits of balladry.
“One Last Time,” however, is one of the album’s best moments. And thankfully, she’s selected it as the next single from the campaign.
The song, co-helmed by a winning troupe of Swede-pop superstars including Carl Falk, Rami, Ilya and Savan Kotecha (and also David Guetta, oddly?), sounds a lot like an Agnes or a Loreen jam which, as all know, equates to sonic excellence.
Ari performed “One Last Time” for the first time last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon while Katy was dancing with her sharks, and while it wasn’t quite as much of a visual spectacle as Katy’s blow-up bonanza, she did nail her mini-diva delivery.
Oh, and there’s apparently an apocalyptic music video on the way as well — and those are always good.
Like the album’s other excellent synth gem “Love Me Harder” with The Weeknd, “One Last Time” is a bit more #seriousface (left side only!) than “Break Free (feat. Zedd)” or “Problem (feat. Iggy Azalea).”
But with any luck, it’ll rise to the top too — and become her real first pop smash from the record without a feature in the title.
“One Last Time” will be released to radio on February 10. (iTunes)
