“1UL”: Danny L Harle’s Got a Huge, Bouncy PC Music Banger for Our Bodies

The PC Music pioneer and friend to Carly Rae Jepsen continues to kill it, this time touching our bodies with “IUL,” the lead single from his upcoming EP.

PC Music are seriously hitting their stride this month with their Month of Mayhem series, rolling out one original release per day, from previously unreleased tracks to remixes, including EasyFun‘s futuristic robot remix of Janet Jackson‘s “No Sleeep” last week. Kyoko, is that you?

Today, Danny L Harle — who most memorably partnered with Godly Rae Jepselegend for last year’s “Super Natural” and produced Charli XCX‘s Number 1 Angel bop “ILY2” — has brought out the lead single and title track of his forthcoming 1UL EP due out on My 19 — and it’s huge. In fact, as Stereogum also noticed, it sounds like a frenetic, ’90s House-meets-space-age Red Bull o’clock reimagining of ATC‘s “All Around the World.” (!) And maybe a little bit like the Rugrats theme song, too.

A woman with a Koons ball tucked betwixt her legs and an ahead-of-her-time Lotus Legend once duetted on the stage of The Voice together and scream-sang: “You can’t have my heart and you won’t use my mind but / Do what you want with my body,” and that is more or less the message of Danny L Harle’s all-out dance floor stormer, dedicated to racing hearts and raging hormones.

So touch my body, that’s what you want. But don’t touch my heart as if I could ever be the one you love!

“1UL” is surely one of the better homages to body contact consent since The Elusive Chanteuse gave us the invitation about a decade ago. Right after SISTAR‘s “Touch My Body.” And Lady Gaga‘s “Do What U Want.” Anyway, it goes off. Just one question: who’s singing?

And if you haven’t consumed the first morsel yet, the 1UL EP includes “Me4U” with Morrie, which Danny L Harle unveiled last month.

Enjoy.

“1UL” was released on May 10. (Apple Music / Spotify)
