Patrick Leonard is already considered an accomplished singer-songwriter. But when it comes to Madonna community, he’s an actual idol.
In addition to working with everyone from Leonard Cohen to Fleetwood Mac to Elton John (and he co-wrote Jewel‘s “Hands”!), Patrick is best known for his longstanding run with the Queen of Pop.
Few can say they worked with Madonna on a career-defining song — Patrick’s responsible for producing and/or co-writing several: “Like a Prayer,” “Cherish,” “Live to Tell,” “I’ll Remember,” “Frozen” and “Nothing Really Matters” to name just a few. He also acted as musical director on the 1985 Virgin Tour and Who’s That Girl World Tour in 1987. Most recently, he scored Madonna’s 2008 documentary, I Am Because We Are.
After making a stir recently by teasing bits and pieces of unreleased Madonna on his Instagram that he found casually laying around on demo tapes, Patrick is now heading to Joe’s Pub in NYC on Tuesday (September 12) to perform never-before-head piano arrangements of his songs with Madonna, as well as telling the stories behind the music.
It will be — wait for it — something to remember. (Yes, he wrote that one too.)
