Many months ago, in one of myriad pop injustices that has befallen the Spearitual discography over the past two decades, The Legendary Miss Britney Spears was set to guest star on Pitbull and J Balvin‘s “Hey Ma.”
It would have been B-Girl’s most artsy-fartsy, #AlgoMasEspañol move since Glory‘s “Change Your Mind (No Seas Cortes).”
Actually, it was originally Pitbull and Romeo Santos featuring Britney – until the Fast And Furious producers decided they wanted J Balvin and Camila Cabello on the track, instead – presumably to engage the youths or whatever.
“It was an honor to be able to work with Britney. The first record I get a chance to work with her on! She’s just a great sport. She’s been in the business for X amount of years. She said ‘Don’t even worry about that. We’ll use it for the remix, or we’ll do another record together,” Pitbull said at the time.
Being the time of year that it is – a Merry Britmas to you and yours! – the Britney version of “Hey Mama” has surfaced out of nowhere. And it is, reliably, cute and fun. And feeling it is no crime!
“If you touch me right, then I might stay the night….”
While not quite groundbreaking, it would have been nice to have for a “Mmm Papi”-“No Seas Cortes”-“Hey Ma” Latin medley section at Piece Of Me. But, you know, we’ll take what we can get. At least New Years Eveney is happening.
