If you weren’t already following the podcast, RuPaul‘s What’s The Tee? with Michelle Visage is required listening: nerdy pop culture conversations with fabulous people, Ru’s spiritual tangents, and, most importantly, copious ads for Squarespace and Squatty Potty®.
Ahead of her appearance as a guest judge on tomorrow’s episode (March 1) of Shangela’s Game Of Thrones – err RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars 3, one-fifth of the holy Spice Girls, Emma Lee “Baby” Bunton, sat down for a chat with Ru and Michelle.
The “Crickets Sing For Anamaria” pop goddess deep-dives into origins of the Spice aesthetic, dispelling the “manufactured” myth, her early girl group favorites (Bananarama!), recording with pop gods like Richard “Biff” Stannard and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, performing at the 2012 Olympics, and keeping up with the girls decades later. And of course, the vaguest of acknowledgement of those reunion tour rumors. (Don’t expect any bombshells or confirmations, obviously – “we’re all very busy,” etc.)
Sadly, there wasn’t any talk of her criminally underrated solo career. (A Girl Like Me, Free Me and Life In Mono forever – I’ll write a book one day.) But still, it’s wonderful to hear from an actual legend about a legitimately iconic moment in pop.
Viva forever.
