Sia, Pop’s Most In-Demand Songwriter©, refuses to be seen — only heard.
She’s playfully obscured her face in every promotional aspect of 1,000 Forms Of Fear thus far, from her Billboard magazine cover, to her brilliant live performance with Maddie Ziegler on The Ellen Show, to last night’s Late Night With Seth Meyers — undoubtedly the oddest outing for the Aussie singer-songwriter yet.
To perform the track as herself, Sia invited ever-polarizing thinkpiece subject and Girls Voice Of A Generation Lena Dunham to throw on the signature Sia blonde wig and twirl ’round in an all-white room, imitating Maddie’s frantic, child-like dance moves while Sia belted out the track lying face down (!) through a pillow hole on a bunk bed. (DAYUM.)
It was an undeniably bizarre performance, in an is-this-brilliant-or-a-trainwreck-or-somewhere-in-between sort of way and one that, like the video, will likely have people talking. (Judging by the YouTube comments, that’s already well underway.)
Remember the episode when Hannah did coke for the first time with her gay ex-boyfriend? That.
And, most importantly of all, Hilary Duff took a #SiaSelfie last night. What else matters, really?
‘1000 Forms Of Fear’ will be released on July 8. (iTunes)
