Sophia Grace, 11-year-old Essex-bred Ellen Show fixture and dear personal friend to Miss Britney Spears, is officially coming for the crown — although she’s usually already wearing one.
You’ll no doubt already be familiar with the pint-sized pop princess thanks of her endless string of appearances on The Ellen Show in past years, performing alongside her cheerful-yet-silent younger cousin/hypewoman, Rosie. Together, they masterfully, enthusiastically tackled cuts like Nicki’s “Super Bass,” Adele‘s “Rolling In The Deep” and Katy Perry‘s “Dark Horse.”
But now, shit just got real: Sophia Grace is now flying solo, and she’s taking no prisoners with her debut banger, “Best Friends.”
The flaming hot #SomethingMoreUrban cut, which most closely recalls Tinashe‘s “2 On” and Fergie‘s “LA Love (La La),” sees the tiny chanteuse serving copious amounts of slumber party sassiness, and the #unapologeticBFF attitude of an industry vet. Seriously, it’s probably the hottest pre-teen jam since New Age/Illuminati member Willow Smith‘s “Whip My Hair” — and that’s saying something.
“Sophia Grace got your back, just know that/And that’s the reason why I’m rapping on this hot track/I take it to the top, I’m never gonna stop, 11 years old, that’s just how I rock,” she casually spits above the trap-lite beats, effectively rendering at least several careers irrelevant. When will Iggy Azalea?
The video is adorable, as Sophia and her gaggle of gal pals run the town, pledging their allegiance to one another in the form of shopping, rowdy dress up parties and glamorous fashion shows. What kind of self-empowering feminist anthem? She clearly knows how to confidently work the camera like a proper pop star. Plus, from the #BeatsPromo to the #KMartPromo, she’s got the pop star music video sponsorship shtick down, too.
Step your game up, lesser pop tarts: There’s a new BFF4lyfe in town.
“Best Friends” was released on November 30. (iTunes)
