Miss Mary J. Blige is having a moment in 2014.
First, she hopped on that incredible and entirely unexpected remix of Disclosure‘s “F For You,” winning her some new fans from the dance floor and suddenly making us all thirst for a Mary J. House record.
Then, she spilled the tea ALL over on the re-release of our favorite elusive chanteuse Mariah Carey‘s “It’s A Wrap” featured on the deluxe edition of Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse. Also, she sings the phrase “I was oh so acquiescent.” B-Y-E.
And now, she’s schooling us on the art of letting go, Mary J. style.
How does one do that, you ask? Suitcases..lots of ’em.
“Suitcase” is Mary’s straight fire R&B banger featured on the soundtrack of Think Like a Man Too. (Ignore that.)
The track knocks hard, as Mary forgoes the fuckery — no more drama, if you will — and ditches her dude: “Got a one way ticket, here’s your goodbye song/And while you’re trying to explain/I be zippin’ up my suitcase,” Mary sasses on the snappy chorus, zipping up her Louis bags and heading for the door. It’s an infectious, empowering lil’ anthem, especially as she sends the message home in that bridge: “There’s no reason for me to stay/’Cause I finally see the truth…and I refuse to be used!” TELL IT.
Let’s go, Mary.
