Time for some Polak-pop!
Polish pop star Natalia Lesz (whose surname will prove quite fitting in a minute) is a 29-year-old singer from Warsaw.
Having spent years studying as both a dancer in Poland and an actress in New York (she graduated from The Tisch School at NYU), Lesz eventually went on to pursue a career in music, resulting in the release of her self-titled debut back in 2008.
The album would spawn several singles, including lead single “Fall,” which topped the Polish Singles Chart. Two more singles would go on to chart in the US Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play charts: “Power of Attraction” (#24 in 2008) and last year’s gorgeous piano ballad-turned-dance floor scorcher “Arabesque,” which peaked at #53.
Now, Lesz returns with a brand new sound: “That Girl,” a bouncy bout of twinkling synthesizers and pulsating lounge rhythms. The song plays out as if Rihanna were just a wee bit more willing in “Te Amo,” as Lesz tackles some Sapphic sensations never before explored: “Did she touch my hand? Is it in my head? / This girl is making me want to see past the mystery,” Lesz breezily croons above the bubbly beat.
“That Girl” is more or less the Polish equivalent of Katy Perry‘s “I Kissed A Girl,” except the lyrics are less ‘sorority girl taboo’ and more ‘sweetly-sung curiosity.’ So go ahead…walk over to that girl and see past the mystery. Oh, OH!
“That Girl” was released to radio in Poland on June 6. Thanks to Muuser Rafał T. for sending the song my way!
