This❤️#rebelheart fought for freedom!

Something has happened to Madonna’s Instagram account…or just to M-Dolla herself.

Blame it on the altitude in the Swiss mountains, but in the past few weeks since the (sort of) surprise (sort of) release of her thoroughly leaked thirteenth studio album Rebel Heart, the hashtag-abusing, Zohar-carrying Queen Of Pop has gone from posting glamorous bathroom selfies and in-studio teases with producers from all over the world to “repurposing” terrible fan art and an overabundance of weird Miley Cyrus blends.

Oh, yes…and an endless, embarrassing barrage of Photoshopped head shots of beloved historical figures, world leaders and activists with #RebelHeartPromo lashes force-wrapped around their faces.

When Twitter first saw those images posted yesterday, some yelled “Racism!” while others simply shrieked “This is in poor taste!”, which led the “Unapologetic Bitch” to issue a grammatically shaky apology on Facebook, explaining that it was simply an act of admiration. (Not to be confused with “appreciating,” which is what she is doing with Lady Gaga‘s Cheek To Cheek.)

She went on to say that she’s also done edits of “Michael jaclson” (?) and “frida khalo” (?) as well. Also…SHE DIDN’T DO IT! HER DUMB FANS DID! SO BACK OFF, HATERS!

I’m sorry
I’m not comparing my self to anyone
I’m admiring and acknowledging there Rebel Hearts
This is niether a crime or an insult or racist!
I also did it with Michael jaclson and frida khalo and marilyn monroe
Am I saying I am them
NO
I’m saying they are Rebel Hearts too.
And
I didn’t do it
My fans did
And I just re posted those photos
My fans aren’t racist either
If they put me in the same category as these other people
Thank you. I’m very flattered and I hope one day to live up to 1 100th of what those people accomplished.” – Madonna

And since you can’t ever tell the Material Girl to stop, she’s still going strong with ’em today.

I mean, look: She means well, in that she clearly looks up to these leaders and their messages as the inspiration behind her own Rebel Heart and her ongoing charity work and the #SecretProject #RevolutionOfLove #LivingForLove project, and she wanted to include them in the campaign. I get it. It’s just that the execution — force-wrapping honorable people’s faces into the lashes used on your album cover — causes the message to get a bit…lost in translation.

Me personally? I’m not offended by the images at all. I’m just offended by the fact that the Queen Of Pop’s social media accounts are being so poorly mismanaged. Guy? Hello? This account now looks like a fan art Geocities page. Also: Never blame the fans, Madge. Come on!

That being said, she’s completely missed some important icons, so I’ve started creating a few #RebelSelfies of my own.

Feel free to join in, everybody!

In praise of the original #RebelHeart. ❤️
