After dealing with a mystery illness at the end of 2014, Avril Lavigne is seemingly back in business with “Give You What You Like,” one of the many highlights from her majorly overlooked self-titled 2013 studio album, Avril Lavigne.
The song has been given a video.
The bad news: The aforementioned video consists mostly of footage from a Lifetime TV original movie called Babysitter’s Black Book.
The good news: Babysitter’s Black Book is already iconic.
Don’t believe me? Here’s the official storyline: “When her parents’ financial problems threaten Ashley’s dreams for college, the high school whiz kid takes matters into her own hands. She and her girlfriends turn their babysitting business into a wildly successful escort service for dads.” ‘Nuff said.
The video’s primarily focused on the deliciously dramatic and steamy scenes from BBB, although the few fleeting solo shots of Avril that we get are very nice. She’s going the American Horror Story: Coven route for this one, putting on a brimmed hat and conducting a seance in the middle of a candle-filled room — presumably to summon the spirits, ward off teen prostitution rings and breathe new life into her album campaign.
To be fair, unless Babysitter’s Black Book goes down as a cult classic (which it very well could!), this probably isn’t the music video that’s going to propel the pop misfit back into the spotlight.
But hey! The song’s still great, much like the album itself. Here’s hoping she wins…no daddies necessary.
