Mutya Keisha Siobhan Miraculously Return With “Back In The Day,” All Hope Is Not Yet Lost

A true pop blessing has occurred this morning.

Just when you were starting to lose hope for the almighty return of The Artists Formerly Known As Sugababes, Formerly Known As Mutya Keisha Siobhan, Now Back To Sugababes Again, a brand new soulful pop treat from the trio has suddenly fallen from the sky.

Following the release of their debut single “Flatline,” the Best Song of 2013, the girls’ latest song (also reportedly produced by Dev Hynes) has arrived this early AM which, according to Siobhan from a 2013 interview with Ponystep, is their “TLC moment.”

The piano-laced, hip-hop flavored tune briefly interpolates Ahmad‘s 1994 single “Back In The Day,” which was later used in Mariah Carey‘s Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel gem, “Candy Bling.” — a double dose of amazing references.

Memories overlook what we try to forget/I’m lost in the outer edge/River’s deep not shallow, as it flows we let go/And where we’ve been nobody knows,” the girls croon with their signature heaven-sent harmonizing skills. It’s sort of unnecessary to say that they all sound amazing both individually and in unison but, well…they really do.

The “As time bleeds away…” bit from Siobhan with the Mutya and Keisha harmonies underneath? Oh my God. Pure, classic Sugababes.

Let us bow our heads and pray that this desperately needed album really, really does see the light of day in 2015.
