Lady Gaga is doing this comeback thing well, from getting back in the studio with RedOne, to a show-stopping, queer-tastic performance at The Academy Awards to the oh-so-Fame Monster-era American Horror Story: Hotel announcement.
And today, she’s done another good thing…although it’s not quite as joyous.
Gaga wrote a song a while ago called “Till It Happens To You” with Diane Warren a while ago for a documentary called The Hunting Ground, an expose of rape crimes across college campuses in America. And last night, the movie had its debut screening.
Naturally, a Little Monster in the crowd whipped out his or her iPhone to record a low quality version of the song, which has since surfaced on the Internet.
For fans of Gaga’s arena-sized emotional power ballads a la “Speechless” and “Dope,” the song should strongly appeal: It’s a massive production, as Mother Monster’s vocals impressively soar across crashing orchestration and Lana Del Rey-like heavenly strings. (She’s really making a strong statement between the Cheek To Cheek era and now, isn’t she?)
Mercifully, the song’s lyrics are straightforward, smartly dodging any potentially iffy ARTPOP metaphors that might have diluted the message.
With any luck, we’ll be hearing the proper studio version sometime soon.
Till you’re standing in my shoes, I don’t want to hear a thing from you…till it happens to you.
