Ariana Grande: Scream Queen, and now…Stream Queen.
The 27-year-old pint-sized powerhouse vocalist might be keeping it (relatively) low key in 2020 – aside from having one of the top pop singles of the year with Lady Gaga or whatever – but she’s still steadily bringing in the streams, over a year since the release of her last studio album, Thank U, Next.
So much so, in fact, that she’s now…the most streamed female artist. Like…of all time.
On Monday (August 17), the ever-reliable @chartdata announced that Ari is now the most streamed female artist of all-time on Spotify, surpassing Rihanna with over 20.5 billion streams.
It’s an incredible feat, and an accomplishment that any artist would be proud to claim for themselves, except…not when it comes down to snatching the title away from the Navy Admiral, Fenty Beauty & Fenty Skin founder, Savage X Fenty fashion designer, model, humanitarian, Battleship actress, future President and part-time musician herself.
“holy shit thank u all so much for listening and caring at all let alone this much. i can’t wait to give u new things to listen to. 🤍 now can rihanna pls drop her album so she can rightfully snatch this back and fill my ears again please or…” Ariana captioned a screenshot of the accomplishment. Honestly, she just gets it!
Ariana knows she’s one powerful pop queen no doubt, and the occasion is absolutely worth celebrating – but she’s also not trying to sit too long in Rih’s throne. The only way to settle this situation? Make like the rest of the girls Saving Pop™ in 2020, and give us the collaboration to end all other collaborations: RIH. ON. ME.
Of course, R9 would also be a great way to reclaim her spot. But at this point, Rih is a little too busy saving the world and dominating the beauty and fashion industries. Although, she does still have time to troll the Navy now and then and wonder aloud herself: Where’s the album, sis?
The limited Sweetener LP is now available on vinyl.
