Let it be Heartthrob by Tegan & Sara.
I’ve already gagged over “Closer” and “I Was A Fool” in weeks past, but the entire album’s an absolute must–a cohesive blend of the Canadian duo’s indie-pop sensibility and slick pop production sheen, courtesy of Greg Kurstin, Rob Cavallo and Justin Meldal-Johnsen. It’s as honest and earnest as any of their past records, but more polished and tightly crafted–resulting in their most universally palatable set yet.
It’s brilliant, and the first serious contender for Album of 2013.
And in case you’d like to try before you buy (who wouldn’t?), you can stream Heartthrob in full now on their SoundCloud.
(But really, buy it–it’s been well over a decade since they first debuted, and it’s high time for the girls to see some major mainstream success.)
And now, here’s one of my many favorites: “Shock To Your System.” “What you are is lonely…”
Heartthrob was released on January 29. (iTunes)
