Oh, new Annie, OH!
My favorite Norwegian Queen of Pop has been taking her sweet, sweet time returning to the dance floor after her eternally delayed (yet entirely worth it) second studio album Don’t Stop back in 2009. The Richard X/Xenomania/Paul Epworth co-produced record (British slang for “PERFECTION”) spawned such major slices of synth-pop deliciousness as “Anthonio”, “My Love Is Better.” and one of my personal favorite records ever, “Songs Remind Me Of You.”
Now, we’ve finally got another taste of her chewing gum: Annie’s providing a tune (and a performance!) for The Night Within, an upcoming short directed by Hildegunn Waerness. The trailer’s just hit the net, along with a little teaser of the track, which is reportedly called “The Night Within Us.”
Like the chilly “Anthonio” B-side “Ferret Summer,” Annie’s latest sees the disco diva twirling into twinkling, starry-eyed italo-disco territory: “It’s got no name/A taste of shame/It is the night within us/’Cause we are always reaching for the stars,” she croons above the dramatic, waltzing beat. It sounds absolutely stunning so far!
Hopefully, this is but a tiny taste of what is apparently a lot to come–three EPs this year, to be exact. Bring it on!
