Aiden Grimshaw Releases “The Way We Are,” A Brilliant (And Free) Synth-Pop Gem

Last year, X Factor UK finalist Aiden Grimshaw released his excellent debut record called Misty Eye, which produced songs like “Is This Love?” and “Curtain Call.” Despite its overall excellence, the album flew mostly under the radar.

But this time around, Aiden’s about to make some big noise.

“The Way We Are” is the first taste of the talented singer’s upcoming EP this fall, co-crafted alongside Dimitri Tikovoi, the genius French producer responsible for crafting tunes on many MuuMuse Approved alt-pop albums, including Charli XCX‘s True Romance, Sophie Ellis-Bextor‘s Trip The Light Fantastic and Nicola RobertsCinderella’s Eyes.

The track slowly glides along a lush, hypnotic electronic pulse, as the brooding beauty croons his ode to miserable romance: “Love isn’t perfect / We’re perfect the way we are.” Chills! It’s restrained and gorgeous, and vaguely reminiscent of some of the darker offerings on Will Young‘s Echoes.

This is truly moody synth-pop at its finest: If the rest of the EP sounds like “The Way We Are,” we’re in for major treat.

“The Way We Are” was released as a free download on August 12. (Soundcloud)
