When it comes to Tinashe, Things Are Happening. Big things. Also, sexy things.
After the announcement of her long-awaited major label debut Aquarius earlier this week, and the continued success of “2 On” all over the radio (rise up, lotus, rise), the skyrocketing sensation’s just dropped the moody, minimal and #SomethingMoreUrban second selection from her upcoming LP, and…damn, bae.
“Can we pretend that everything is like yesterday?” the songstress slinkily suggests off the top of the Detail-produced midtempo ode to relationship roleplay, filled with atmospheric synths and a tripping hip-hop beat — not at all unlike the top-notch late night tunes off of her multiple mixtapes.
“When I’m looking for love, I pretend it’s you/A love that never ends,” she chillingly echoes across the nearly beatless chorus, carrying the track with those gorgeous, early ’00’s R&B-leaning melodies. That voice! Like buttah. Buttah in space, that is.
You see, Tinashe might like to play pretend, but she’s certainly not playing around. Give it to ’em, T!
“Pretend (feat. A$AP Rocky)” was released on August 22. (iTunes)
