First of all, I hope that everyone had a fantastic Christmas. Unless you don’t do that, in which case, I hope your December 25th was fantastic for no particular reason at all. Mine was predominately dedicated to chasing around a new puppy, which is probably why I hadn’t gotten around to writing about this amazing moment the second after it happened.
BLACKPINK – one of the most promising troupes among the many girl groups of South Korea – are so hot, so fine and so cool. So really, it’s no surprise that they’d opt to cover the 2008 Wonder Girls hit, “So Hot.”
Jennie, Jisoo, Rose and Queen Lisa might keep us parched for more pop with their one-single-every-seven-months-or-so strategy, but at least they’ve found a way to tide us over until their 2018 comeback…well, and their new reality show, Blackpink House.
As part of SBS Gayo Daejeon, an annual end-of-year music celebration program, the girls decided to put an oh-so-BLACKPINK spin on the now nearly decade-old K-Pop hit, supplying their own modern brand of sass and cutesy cockiness with the THEBLACKLABEL remix, plus an especially hot English-language verse from Lisa and Jennie.
“Put the pop back in pop at the top”? Fierce. “We the only gang to run the game in high heels”? Fiercest.
The girls also served up a reliably solid staging of “As If It’s Your Last” – one of the year’s best songs, didn’t you know? – and, quite generously, even uploaded the studio version of their “So Hot” remix to boot.
