Vanessa Hudgens Is Back, And So Into Laying Right Now

Basically, what we’re doing to do is dance. But first…we’re going to lay down for a bit.

Vanessa Anne Hudgens, formerly so into voguing, is so into laying right now.

Following her triumphant Lip Sync For Her Life on the runway against a literal pork chop on RuPaul’s Drag Race, the 29-year-old “Sneakernight” chanteuse is blessing the music scene with the almighty return of Baby V.

This time around, Vanessa’s hooked up with LA-based EDM duo Phantoms, made up of teen actors-turned-musicians Vinnie Pergola and Kyle Kaplan, for a collaboration. (Side note: their single released in July, “Agenda” with Nicole Millar, is a total bop.)

While the song is sadly not the “Sneakernight” sequel some were hoping for it to be, nor is it another “$$$ex”-y endeavor, it is a welcome, crisp, modern-sounding return for the former Disney Channel diva.

“Lay With Me” is actually not super far off from something off of fellow Disney Kween Hilary Duff‘s deeply under-appreciated, EDM-ish Breathe In. Breathe Out., but with a slight indie electro flair. Does that make sense? Maybe it doesn’t.

Want you to lay-ay-ay with me!” she croons over tight, strut-friendly chilly synth stabs across an atmospheric soundscape. “Nothing can be left unspoken / Every time we touch is golden.

That eruption of ecstasy in the bridge at the 2:30 mark is like buttah – surprise buttah, really. V-Girl’s really coming through with the euphoria.

“Making this song was such a serendipitous experience. We grew up with Vanessa then weirdly ran into her at the airport last year and talked about working on music at some point. Then a few months later we got in the studio and recorded this song. It was a cool way to reconnect since the last time we all hung out we were around 16 years old. So happy this song is finally out, it’s one of our favorites,” says Phantoms.

“I’m so excited for this song and music video. I loved being in the studio again working with Phantoms. Crazy we reconnected all these years later and got to create something we’re all very proud of,” adds Vanessa.
