What better way to celebrate the enduring spirit of Pride than a fresh, twerk-filled offering from Ciara and Nicki Minaj?
After dropping it down to the ground in the video for her lovey-dovey, Mike WiLL Made It-produced “Body Party,” the Queen of Crunk-‘N-B now finds herself newly emancipated, sexy and single (in fantasy land, anyway — we all know she’s still very much overdosing on Future IRL.)
And so, she’s enlisted her “I’m Legit” BFF Nicki to suit up and get super turnt up for her brand new empowerment anthem.
The first thing you’ll probably notice? The ace homage: That sleek, spacey all-white room is a total nod to the room Michael Jackson and Janet were grooving in with their legendary 1995 collaboration (and one of the most expensive music videos in history!), “Scream.”
Then again, Michael and Janet didn’t…
“I’m Out” has all the makings of a twerk anthem (so much so that Nicki’s even running a twerk team contest for the track), so it was only too obvious that there’d be some serious rump-shaking in the accompanying clip for “I’m Out.” (Sorry Miss Miley, but the twerk-happy “We Can’t Stop” video just got its booty pads snatched!)
Granted, the twosome probably should have brought in Julian Serrano for a quick twerk cameo (twerkmeo?), but the two handle the deed well with their own bouncing buns.
Once it’s CiCi’s time to shine sans Nicki, she turns it out (and super turnts it up!) backstage with her girls (and gay — ever the LGBT warrior!), snapping cute photos and pouring toasts. It’s a little bit of Britney‘s “If U Seek Amy” too, no?
And, apart from the killer choreography, there’s some seriously sick styling going on: The frequent Fashion Week front row inhabitant switches up her clip with about a half dozen different looks (lewks) — from the baggy, early ’90’s throwback threads to that strictly 22nd century space suit get-up, CiCi simply brings the runway.
There’s a little bit of waterworks action, too — a nod to the drenched “Gimmie Dat” rain dance, obviously.
“I’m Out” is the latest cut from CiCi’s upcoming album Ciara (which her team accidentally leaked), dropping next week — which you’ll want to grab, as it’s one of the best records of the summer. They both look gorgeous, the moves are tight, the video’s a party (a body party, as one might say) — what’s not to love?
And with that, I’m out.
Ciara will be released on July 5. (iTunes)
