Ugh, sorry about the headline. I couldn’t resist.
It’s been about six months since X Factor Australia winner Samantha Jade went shooting up the ARIA Charts to #1 (like a rocket to the sun, to be exact) with her fantastic winner’s single, “What You’ve Done To Me.”
Six months later, the singer-songstress responsible for penning JoJo‘s “Secret Love” is back with a follow-up track called “Firestarter,” which will serve as the official lead single from her upcoming debut LP.
And yes — she’s done it again.
Samantha’s latest electro-pop scorcher was produced by Aussie production duo DNA Songs, the same producers behind songs like Zoe Badwi‘s “Freefallin'” as well as her own “What You’ve Done To Me.” (Hey…if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.)
It’s dark, throbbing, dub-y and, as we in the industry like to say, straight hot fiya — even if the instrumental is a fairly #unapologetic lift of David Guetta‘s “Night Of Your Life” with Jennifer Hudson. (It’s also a little bit Leona Lewis‘ “Glassheart” in that amazing bridge. “F-f-flamethrower, f-f-firestarter…”)
“We, we’re flying recklessly tonight / Go on and take me higher / You could be my firestarter,” Jade cries out. The stuff of lyrical genius? Perhaps not, but whatever. It’s still a solid, surefire (SEE WHAT I DID THERE) clubland scorcher, destined to motivate some fancy footwork on the floor and send her flying up the charts once again.
Go on, Miss Jade!
“Firestarter” was released on June 28. (iTunes Australia)
