No, I never really thought I’d be writing about Panic! At The Disco on MuuMuse. Or, like, a band in general. Where are the stilettos and hair flips? (Kidding.) Err, sort of. This all feels very weird and brings up memories of high school and ex-boyfriends. But, hey — that’s the power of music, y’all!
You already know Panic! At The Disco, obviously, for songs with succinct titles like “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” and “Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off.” After several roster shake-ups and some some personal turmoil (Destiny’s Child style), the band’s back on the scene with a new record called Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! this week…and it’s pretty great.
But it’s “Girls/Girls/Boys,” their latest single, that actually caught my attention first: The song has a sort of Killers synth glam-rock/’80’s New Wave vibe, which actually makes a lot of sense — according to Urie, the album was inspired by Las Vegas (also home to The Killers), and carries that sort of dark, “dingy, old Vegas side” quality to the music.
“I don’t want to hear you got a boyfriend / Sometimes, you’re better off alone,” Urie croons. It’s a bit menacing and aggressive (in a sexy way), and perfectly suited for the Halloween season. The chorus is a major earworm, too: “Girls love girls and boys / And love is not a choice,” Urie yelps. LGBT warrior!
If nothing else, the accompanying video ought to hold your attention — it’s an homage to D’Angelo‘s iconic “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” music video. That’s right: Brendon Urie’s got a plan (get naked).
So, hey: Even if the music’s not your thing, well…Urie’s pretty easy on the eyes.
