Less Is More

Time for some real “Feedback.” Textured synth melodies, robot voices, and an old school back-and-forth crunch beat provide a luscious soundscape for Janet’s album track “Rock With U.” Like an ’80’s sound tunnel, the auto-tuned, mid-tempo swayer does its best to illuminate instead of compete against her soft-spoken voice. There’s something believable about the track; Janet merely breathes the in’s and out’s of sexual exploration on top of a deliciously crunchy and danceable beat. By the time the middle eight kicks in, it’s impossible not to give in the airy temptation of the song. This is where the project has to turn. Pure, ethereal melody. You’ve won this one, Ms. Jackson.
