Killin’ It.

Sorry, but I had to do this one at some point. It’s Sophie Ellis-Bextor‘s greatest hit of all time, 2002’s “Murder On The Dancefloor” from her album Read My Lips.

Honestly, I could listen to this track day in and out and I would simply not tire from listening. Weaving together Bextor’s signature piss off, deadpan delivery, a sprinkling of sinister lyricism, and a glittering disco undercurrent, the track is perhaps one of the few truly quintessential tracks to define my musical taste.

Accordingly, the accompanying video succeeds in capturing that essence. Bextor plays the perfect cruel heroine, sabotaging her way through a somewhat lackluster dancing competition by buttering up the judges, the camera, and…the dancefloor. It’s a fun romp brought on through calculated bitchiness that Bextor truly wields to her advantage. I love it, I love it, and I still can’t get enough. What can I say? She kills me! Har har har.
