Björk: Nattura (Single Review)

‘Twas a bit unexpected! “Nattura” is Björk‘s latest featuring Thom Yorke, a brand new release to carry us out of the miserable Volta era. Good riddance! According to Pitchfork, the song “‘highlights a grass roots movement in Iceland to reclaim the country’s natural resources and wilderness from the hands of big business and pollution.'” Additionally, 100% of the single’s profits will be used for environmental causes in Iceland. How Björky of her! Like “Declare Independence,” the track is an impassioned war-cry against the system.

The opening beats carry a high degree of promise, so it’s entirely fulfilling to find Björk in full, throaty mode as the vocals kick in, screaming along like the best of ’em as wisps of Yorke’s somber falsetto floats along within the ether. Authentic, intoxicating, and a fuller return to form. With any luck, this could be the direction of the new era.
