As NeNe Leakes might agree, some people are so nasty and so rude.
During the after show taping of Watch What Happens Live on Thursday (July 31), Guardians of the Galaxy starlet Zoe Saldana (of Crossroads legacy) and Orange Is The New Black Queen/LGBTQ activist Laverne Cox were busy chatting it up with Andy Cohen when a caller dialed in to ask Zoe if she’d seen Britney‘s Piece Of Me show in Vegas yet, and whether she’d heard “her new single without Auto-Tune.”
In non-basic speak, the “new single” is in reference to the “Alien” leak that blew up ’round the Internet last month which, hey…free #BritneyJeanPromo. Every six months or so, the Internet decides to come for Britney’s vocals — it’s nothing new. But for the record (REFERENCE), that clip genuinely sounds doctored to me. And even if it isn’t, then it’s a single straight pass studio take. So what? It’s really not even worth talking about. BUT ANYWAY.
Without skipping a beat, Zoe went right back into Crossroads mode (insert relevant movie tagline: “Dreams change. Friends are forever“) and eloquently defended our beloved Brit Brit.
Since the video above might not be available in all territories, here’s what she said in full…
Well, that’s mean, because I’m pretty sure that 80% of our musical artists would be mortified if they were caught singing without their own Auto-Tune. I haven’t seen her show in Vegas. I have a huge amount of respect for Britney Spears. I’ve always said this and I will always continue to say it: She was the one big, big celebrity that I met when I was starting to work in Hollywood who literally was humble, and whatever was going in her mind, in her world, it was never about hating her neighbor. She was the only pop star at that time, and I can name a lot of prominent figures right now that today are more famous than Britney, that literally got to where they were at by hating on Britney a lot because it was cool at one time to really just diss her, and Britney never did that. And yeah, she had the biggest fan base. I do believe that people and children gravitate to good energy, and she’s definitely an abundance of that.
Boom! Flawless execution.
People can take everything away from you…but they can never take away your truth. Nice one, Zoe!
And a special shout out to my friend DJ Ben Harvey from Sirius XM’s new Utopia station for putting in #WORKBXXCH as the bartender of the night!
