The Mandy Moore Music Comeback Is So Real, Finally

Mandy Moore Candy

Amanda Leigh “Mandy” Moore is, at the moment, best known for her starring role in This Is Us, a show that I do not personally watch, specifically because everyone who watches it can’t seem to shut up about how much it makes them cry. You know what I want to do? Not that!

If Mandy wants to join The Great British Bake Off, give me a shout. Otherwise, as a pint-sized vagina warrior once sang, I’ve no tears left to cry…not even for Mandy. (Unless sharks are involved.)

“Cry,” however? I have all the time in the world for that kind of crying. And also “Candy.” And “Walk Me Home.” And “I Wanna Be With You.” And Coverage. And Wild Hope. And this Rihanna cover. And everything in between.

As of yesterday (July 13), after months and years of empty promises and vague suggestions, Mandy Moore – not the This Is Us actress, but rather the Pop Star – is returning to her music roots.

Granted, she’s probably not going the pop route this time around (or ever again), given that every time her bubblegum back catalog is brought up in conversation, she reacts the same way I do upon seeing a one-time Grindr hook-up in public.

She shouldn’t look like she wants to leap into traffic, though. She should respect – or God forbid even enjoy! – the Legitimately Good Pop Music she made as a youth, but hey: you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make the horse admit that “In My Pocket” is a fucking bop.

Anyway: she’s doing new music – finally, for real.

“Getting back to it. It’s time. I miss it. I’m not scared anymore. No more excuses. No more allowing someone’s else insecurities to dictate my relationship to music and singing. Boom. Also- this is just a little demo of something @themikeviola and I worked on yesterday… but still, it’s a start! 🎶,” she wrote on Instagram. (Clock the immaculate Ryan Adams shade.)

It sounds lovely so far, similar to her later work: folksy, acoustic, stripped-down. I don’t foresee Mandy doing any version of modern pop, but who knows? At best, I’d love something along the lines of Leighton Meester‘s quite fantastic and lush Heartstrings.

Or, I could be entirely wrong and the Cardi B collaboration we never knew we needed is coming. (“I don’t gotta act / I make Mandy moves.“)

Either way, it will inevitably be gay-friendly. Lest we forget, literally everyone in Mandy Moore’s immediate circle is queer.

Whatever was in Mandy’s candy turned everyone…GAY.

Anyway, Mandy’s back in the recording studio, feeling unafraid. Music is saved. Rejoice!
