Florrie Is Releasing Her Debut Album at Last (& Opening for Girls Aloud!)

‘The Lost Ones,’ over a decade in the making, is finally found

“Our dreams didn’t go to waste, they’re holding on…”

Florrie is truly playing the long game.

The singer-songwriter-drummer-producer-TikToker extraordinaire first provided drums on the Almighty Aloud‘s BRIT Award-winning “The Promise” over 16 years (!) ago. And now, she’ll be opening for them on their reunion tour during all five nights at the O2 this June. (And yes, I’ll be there.)

It’s a full circle moment, and a Xenomania enthusiast’s dream – and only the start of good news to come from the multi-talented musician this week.

On Friday (March 22), Florrie released the lead single and accompanying music video from what will be her long-awaited debut album The Lost Ones, due out on June 14 via BMG and Xenomania Records.

The album comes 14 years after the release of her debut single “Call 911” (the real ones will always know it as the theme song of the lost Gigi Gorgeous web series The Avenue!) and her Introduction EP, which is honestly inspiring. Like, maybe Rihanna really will release R9 one day. Crazier things have happened!

“I have been waiting to make my debut album for the last 12 years and it deserved all the time and love I’ve put into it,” she explained in a release.

Ahead of the album’s release, she neatly tied up the loose ends of the past four or five years with the Personal package at the end of 2023, a collection of many of the songs she’s released over the years, including “Borderline,” featured on Grey’s Anatomy in 2019.

And now, it’s time to get lost once again. (But there’s a clear roadmap for what’s coming up ahead this time, fear not.)

“The Lost Ones” is a song “about letting go; of past regrets, mistakes you made when you didn’t know any better, and keeping hold of hope when life gets hard. There was a time when I almost gave up on music, and I went through a rough couple of years. I wrote this song while rediscovering myself as an artist and a human being,” she explains.

The anthemic song, co-produced alongside constant collaborator and Xenomania pop Brian Higgins, is a propulsive pop burst of hope against the odds that is only too appropriate for the release: “We’re the lost ones (yeah), it’s a jungle (yeah) / Our thorns are buried deep, but we see beauty in our dreams,” she declares on the instantly catchy chorus.

The accompanying music video also provides a glimpse into Florrie’s journey up to now, including home videos of her playing drums and performing in her early years, leading to the present right outside Xenomania’s cottage doors, where teams of writers worked on hits for our favorite acts like Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Rachel Stevens, The Saturdays and the Pet Shop Boys.

“I filmed this video in the hills behind the old Xenomania studio, where I started my career as an artist, and it felt very poignant being back there. I also wanted to include some old videos to show where it all began…and as a reminder to never give up,” she says.

As for the rest of the LP, you can expect to find a few reworked favorites from the past (“I Took a Little Something” and my all-time favorite “Get You Back,” we truly won!), as well as brand new cuts from Florrie and Brian Higgins, as well as collaborations with Takura Tendayi, who co-wrote Rihanna‘s “Wait Your Turn.”

With tour dates for both the Aloud and G Flip lined up between May and June and more from The Lost Ones still to come, Florrie’s never been busier. She’s truly a testament to the fact that there is no time limit on following your dreams, regardless of the setbacks that have presented challenges in the past – especially when you’ve got the talent to craft consistently amazing pop music for years. (Please forgive her for being Late. She was just busy experimenting with rugs.)

This debut is long overdue and well deserved. Congratulations on your formal arrival, Florrie!
