You know what’s not a loud, embarrassing, caps lock-filled Twitter feud between an attention-seeking pop star of questionable intention and a thirsty gossip blogger of dwindling popularity? A new video for a late summer single by an iconic UK girl group!
Mutya Keisha Siobhan — MKS, or the Origibabes — have premiered the video for their major (re-)debut single “Flatline,” which is arguably the best pop song of 2013 — and it’s all sorts of sunny gorgeousness.
Shot in LA last month, the video sees the three “Soul Sound” songstresses frolicking ’round by the West Coast (WEST COAST BEST COAST, AMIRITE?!), getting silly on the sand and basically just doing them. That’s the beauty of it all, really! It looks and feels like a classic girl group visual. (The vintage-style footage also helps to achieve that aesthetic.)
Like Solange‘s “Losing You” (which was also produced by Dev Hynes), the accompanying clip is a playful bout of breezy, colorful fun — which is exactly what MKS needed to deliver. It’s great! They’re just strolling down the coast, high-fiving strangers and hotties, posing on bicycles, indulging in sweet treats and just generally being effortlessly cooler and more chic than the rest of us. Surely Mutya’s thigh-high boots alone merit a post in their own right? It all almost distracts you from the fact that the song’s still not out until September 15. Almost!
And that’s how you make the year’s best pop without making a big, noisy fuss.
“Flatline” will be released on September 15. (iTunes UK)
