While some pop stars are busy stirring up bad blood between each other (my vote is MINAJ/PERRY 2016, just so we’re clear), others are joining forces for a far less drama-filled, subtweet-free purpose on the dance floor.
Nearly five years since their shimmering, splendid Aphrodite collaboration, “Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love),” DJ duo NERVO have once again teamed up once again with the almighty Queen Of Cowboy Style And Peaceful Smiles, Kylie Minogue.
“The Other Boys” is a wicked good song off of NERVO’s upcoming album, Collateral, out on Friday.
And speaking of boys, there are two rather talented ones featured on the club cut too: Sexy Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears and the legend himself, Mr. Nile Rodgers. And when these powerful forces join together, it’s as blissfully, brilliantly disco-tastic as imagined…and then some.
Think waves of pounding synthesizers-meets-funky, fiery ’70s disco guitar licks-meets-bleary eyed, trashy late night gay bar hopping-meets-the 4 AM text to that guy you went on a date with, like, twice but then he stopped texting…all with a sprinkle of glitter.
That, in effect, is “The Other Boys,” a modern day disco smash packed full of pulsations and personality: From Kylie and Jake’s ‘tude-filled verses begging and pleading for some much-needed affection (Kylie just can’t get you out of her head — REFERENCE), to Nile’s infectious instrumentation, to NERVO’s EDM festival-ready production, the track is the very essence of what everyone involved does best.
Between this and the Giorgio Moroder record (Deja Vu), disco revival has never sounded sweeter.
Now call me back, please. Please?
Why don’t you love me like the other boys do?
Why can’t you call me up?
Why isn’t it you?
‘Collateral’ will be released on July 24. (iTunes)
