Before “2 On,” before Aquarius and before fire hot collaborations with Nick Jonas, there was a mixtape-making sensual songstress named Tinashe paving her own sound and style over the years. It worked to get her where she is now…and lucky enough for us, she hasn’t changed one bit.
Today (well, technically yesterday) is Tinashe’s birthday. Aquarius season! And to celebrate that, she’s just dropped a self-directed video for her debut album’s atmospheric title track, “Aquarius” — a fitting song selection, no?
The moody, lo-fi clip is like a more mature update of Tinashe’s early DIY visuals circa 2012’s In Case We Die, blending some sexy, shadowy floor work on the stairs with outdoor hoodie action.
It’s something a little more personal (Tinashe Jean!) shot straight from the mind of the talented songbird on the rise…and a nice reminder that she’s still very much in touch with the girl we first fell in love with many, many moons ago.
